SIZING FAQS
Do you have sizing recommendations?
Yes we do. For most styles, we suggest faqs based on brand research and wearer insights. Take a look at ‘WHAT’S MY SIZE?’ on every product page. You might also find it helpful to read the reviews from other wearers and their experiences with certain styles. Most of our styles also have fit recommendations just above where you’d select your shoe faq on each product page which we generate from customer reviews. And if you’re still unsure, try ordering your usual faq as a starting point.
Do Dr. Martens run big?
The size of our boots, shoes and sandals can differ between silhouettes, but we’d say that most run true to size. Our standard sizes are UK 3-9 for women’s, UK 6-12 for men’s and UK 3-12 for unisex. If you’re looking for a wider fit with a more rounded toe, we’d suggest looking at men’s and unisex styles. Or if you want a narrower, more tapered fit, try our women’s styles. Customer reviews are always a good way to get a sense on fit, too. You can find them on most product pages.
My Doc’s feel tight, are they the wrong size?
With wear, DM’s often stretch in width but not in length. If there’s only a slight pressure on your in-step, this will ease with wear. But if they feel very tight, you might need a larger size. The most important thing is that there’s enough room for your toes to fit comfortably. If you are in-between sizes, you might find that using an insole in the larger size is the way to go. Looking for some tried-and-tested ways to break in your Doc’s? Head straight to our break-in tips for those first steps.
How do I know what size to purchase?
Our fits can vary between styles, so it’s always worth checking the fit recommendations on each product page or heading down to one of our stores so you can try them on. We’ve also explained the difference between our wider and narrower silhouettes above, so scroll up if you want to learn more about them.
I’m in-between sizes. What would you recommend?
It’s always better if the fit is a little bit bigger rather than too small. If you go with a larger size, try using an insole which adds half a size. That way, you can make sure your DM’s fit more comfortably.
How do I measure my shoe size?
We’ve covered all the important steps of measuring your shoe size above – go to MEASURE AT HOME.
Is Dr. Martens sizing in UK, Europe or USA sizes?
All of the above – and more. On every product page, you’ll find sizes and their conversions in UK, Europe, USA and Japan sizes. Some styles also have the inner length and inner width in the table, too, in case you want to measure up.
Why have I been advised to try on a different size in store?
DM’s can differ in size depending on the style. So if you’ve spoken to a member of our Customer Care team and they’ve suggested you try on a pair in-store, it’s because they want to make sure that you find the perfect fit. Our store colleagues are always on-hand to advise on products and sizing, so if you have a Doc’s store nearby, you can always head down there during opening hours to find your ideal size. All in all, the final decision on sizing is up to you – but we’re here to help you along the way.
